I stand at the graveside of another day.  Gradually he releases his grip on me as he takes his final breath.  This day that began so bright and full of potential now is on the verge of extinction.  All our dreams and good intentions for this day perish with the setting of the sun and the only survivors are our memories and good deeds.

       As I stand in the rapidly cooling sand I watch the sea birds slowly make their way back home.  The setting sun marks the end of another days labors.  They will gather no more fish for their families.  As the night swiftly approaches they begin their long journey home.  Their flight toward the nest is unhurried and looks a little sad.  With each rhythmic stroke they are that much closer to looking into the hungry eyes of their little ones.  Perhaps they are returning home empty handed and dread the sad reunion.

        Have you ever laid you head on your pillow and felt like a failure?  Possibly life for you is filled with the rhythmic monotony of an endless succession of ordinary days.  What do you do?  Fly off into the sunset and give up?  Do you wish you had the opportunity of living your past over again?  We have all felt the sting of discouragement.  The important thing to remember is if we fall down, if we stumble, we can begin again.  We can have a fresh start any time we choose.  Like the birds I watched fly back to their nests; they all started over when the sun rose. 

        Failure is merely an opportunity to start over wiser than before.  Feelings of discouragement and longing for something more from ourselves and our lives is simply an indication that we need to begin again.  And the good news is we can.  Life at its best is a series of new beginnings.  Every new day is an opportunity to begin again.  There is no better way to finish than to be ever beginning.  Knowing how to start over is a key that opens any lock.  Today, take a fresh look at your dreams and begin something new.  If you can dream it, you can achieve it.  Dare to begin.

• Are you in earnest? Seize this very minute! What you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Only engage, and then the mind grows heated. Begin, and then the work will be completed.

• God’s way becomes plain when we start walking in it.

• When prodigals return, great things are done.

• All glory comes from daring to begin.

• A smile will go a long way, but you will have to start it on its journey.

• If you want to be successful, start working on the job before you have to.

• You can’t get anywhere unless you start.

• The man who is waiting for something to turn up might do well to start with his own shirt sleeves.

• Eternal life does not begin with death; it begins with faith.
