Friday evening as I was walking up Mountain Longleaf National Wildlife Refuge, (Which contains, the last remaining old growth stands and the best remaining mountain longleaf pine forests in the Southeast), I noticed lots of Muscadine vines growing in the trees alone the side of the road. As I looked at the muscadines, I noticed the leaves of this vine were changing colors. The fruit was ripe and juicy but the leaves were starting to die.
I said to myself, “Times are a-changing”. It seems just a few weeks ago we celebrated Christmas, now the leaves are starting to change and Fall will be here soon. I guess I should not be surprised that things are changing. John F. Kennedy said, “Everything changes but change itself”. Time marches on; nothing stands still; everything changes. Try to stop Change and you will be disappointed.
What are we to do about change? Can we stop the sun from rising in the morning? Can we stop the leaves from changing in the Fall? No. So what should our attitude be toward Change? Embrace Change! Realize, that change is good. Bruce Barton said, “Keep changing. When you’re through changing, you’re through.”Once I could not walk, I could not talk, I could not feed myself… Thankfully, things changed.
Ready or not, change is coming. Let us make every effort that our change will be in the right direction. Become a better person; a better father; a better friend. I want to change some things, so this is my opportunity, because Change is coming. What do you want to change?
Something to think about:
-
“We are not to endure change, nor even to profit by it, but to cause it.”
-
“Every end is a new beginning.”
-
“In this life we will encounter hurts and trials that we will not be able to change; we are just going to have to allow them to change us.”
P.S. . .
You may not recognize me, because I have changed!
