 shine

        While driving along an old country road I see a field of bright yellow flowers growing.  I stop the car and step out to walk among these magical tokens of heavens pleasure.  As my footsteps fall between these blossoming beauties I am amazed at how the sunshine around me takes on a glorious golden hue.  As I look at this spectacle I begin to wonder how many times I have seen such a wonderful sight and yet never noticed.  It was as if it had been invisible to me until this day.

        As I continue exploring this uncharted territory I kneel down to observe my new frontier from a fresh perspective.  Instantly I was surprised as I looked at the light shining through the flower pedals.  It occurs to me that this flower was acting as a prism to make visible what was previously invisible.  This flower was like a window allowing the light of heaven to shine through and brighten my day.  As I looked through this gracious plant I was able to perceive the incomprehensible brightness of the sun.

        As I pondered my transparent plant, I began to recognize some very important human qualities.  We live in a world that is blinded to the truly important things of life.  Who . . . has ever seen an idea? . . . Who has ever seen love? . . . Who has ever seen faith?  . . . Who has ever seen faithfulness, truth, kindness, forgiveness, gentleness or peace? . . . The genuinely important things in the world are the invisible realities we take for granted every day.  And the only way people will be able to see these will be when we allow the light to shine through us.

        Will the people you meet today be able to see the invisible?  Will they see kindness reflected through your life?  Will they gaze at loving deeds and patience or will they see the ordinary dog eat dog world they are accustomed to?  Our task is to allow the light of heaven to shine through our daily lives and make visible the good, the beautiful, the true, the honest and the loving sunshine of life.  Were we not commanded to let our light shine for all; to let our good deeds glow for all to see, so that they will praise our Father in heaven?  Today, let us choose a life of transparent goodness and reflect the light those around us need to see.

Something to think about:

  • An atheist is a man without any invisible means of support.

  • Only he who can see the invisible can do the impossible.

  • A blind man’s world is bounded by the limits of his touch; an ignorant man’s world by the limits of his knowledge; a great man’s world by the limits of his vision.

  • A vision without a task is a dream; a task without a vision is drudgery; a vision and a task is the hope of the world.

  • Faith hears the inaudible, sees the invisible, believes the incredible, and receives the impossible.

  • He has no hands but our hands

  • To do his work today;
    He has no feet but our feet
    To lead men in his way;
    He has no tongues but our tongues
    To tell men how he died;
    He has no help but our help
    To bring them to his side.

  • This is the true greatness: to serve unnoticed and work unseen.
