limitations

My buddy with the sticky toes cautiously poked his head around the leaf.  I watch him look to the left and then to the right.  Watchfully he waits.  His motionless body is almost undetectable.  Still he hangs around stationary as a sculpture of stone.  Safeguarded by a shield of foliage he is rendered invisible by his ability to blend into his environment.

Patiently he waits for lunch.  He has already placed his order and now he waits at the drive through.  Some people would describe him as handicapped.  He has no wings to propel him swiftly in the pursuit of his prey.  His physique resembles Barney Fife more than it does Mr. Atlas.  He has no bulging muscles.  He never went to college and never heard of performance enhancing drugs.  Some people might even call him a looser.  They can’t see that he has much going for him.

But, of course nobody told him that he was so handicapped.  All he knows is he wants something sweet and juicy for lunch.  Something like a plump bug or a spicy beetle sounds pretty good to him.  So he drives up to the café in the garden and waits for the delivery guy.  In fact he desires his tender morsels so much that as he waits the color of his skin begins to change.  His limitations became an invitation to get creative.

He could have spent his time complaining and crying over his lack of natural abilities and talents.  But instead he sought for creative ways of using what he had to the best of his ability.  The real tragedy of life is not in being limited to one talent, but in the failure to use the one talent.  Life has no limitations, except the ones you make.  Set out today and do something special.  Allow your limitations to become the driving force behind your creativity.  Happiness is a choice; choose to do what others call impossible.

Something to think about:

  • Every person takes the limits of their own field of vision for the limits of the world…Do just once what others say you can't do and you will never pay attention to their limitations again.

  • Most people are not really free. They are confined by the niche in the world that they carve out for themselves.  They limit themselves to fewer possibilities by the narrowness of their vision.
  • The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a man’s determination.

  • Impossible is a hopeful word, for it’s a direct invitation to let God in.

  • If you never undertake more than you can possibly do, you will never do more than you can possibly do.

  • God calls us to live a life we cannot live, so that we must depend on him for supernatural ability. We are called to do the impossible, to live beyond our natural ability.

  • There is no limit to what can be accomplished if it doesn’t matter who gets the credit.

  • The greatest administrators do not achieve production through constraints and limitations. They provide opportunities.

Know your limits, but never accept them.
