My vision has changed.  Last week I broke my glasses.  One minute I am cleaning them and the next I am holding parts of them in each hand.  And just like Humpty Dumpty, I can not put the pieces back together again (It was a long sad saga).  Since it has been about 2 years since my last eye exam, I visit an optometrist and get some new glasses.  And like I was saying, my eyes have changed.  My prescription did not change, but my vision has been altered.

One of the best things to come out of doing Moore than meets the eye is the way it has changed my vision.  What I mean is, I have began noticing things, special things, even things I consider extraordinary in the most unusual places; right in front of me.  I walk into the woods for a short hike and they just seem to jump out and say, here I am, look at me.  And almost every time I pause and take the time to look (I mean really try to discover something special) I am seldom disappointed.

It is easy to find things to scorn and ridicule.  How hard is it to find fault with or belittle the things and people that cross our paths most days?  But if we looked for the good that surrounds us every day, you would be surprised how often you find what you look for.  It is just as easy to spend your energy looking at the positive side of things, to look for ways to lift up and encourage someone as it is to put them down.

Maybe we need a vision exam.  Perhaps you could look at the chart on the wall and tell me what you see.  Or possibly you could look at the person across the hall or the one who calls you mom or brother, and tell me what you see.  Remember, we generally find what we are looking for.

Something to think about:

  • Appreciation is a wonderful thing: it makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well.

  • Contentment is not the fulfillment of what you want, but the realization of how much you already have.

  • When life isn’t the way you like, like it the way it is.

  • Nothing is ordinary if you know how to use it.

  • Unwrap the hidden beauties in an ordinary day.

  • I believe that there are extraordinary possibilities in ordinary people.
