work

The sand was soft and warm.  Each massaging step was a luxurious comfort.  Each footprint left a temporary testimony to the unending pleasures to be found in this breathtaking place.  The cool blue waters that lapped at my feet dished up a delicious contrast in texture and temperature.  My stride was unhurried and effortless as I savored each soothing step.  Contented I travel on my cheerful way, happy to visit heavens day spa one more time.

I enjoyed my journey to the place where surf and sand join hands and share their lives together.  The music they share is truly magical.  The rhythmic ebb and flow of the waves, the crash of the breakers and the whistles of the wind all combine in the symphony of the sand.  The busy chatter of the sea birds as they go about their duty of gathering food for their families seemed so blissful and happy.  I pause with an eye to the sky and follow the flight of the birds of my paradise.  I watch as they hang ten on the wind and float as naturally as a fish soars through the seas.  And as the tide flows away from the sand it delivers a banquet of fish sticks and shell fish on the edge of the shore.  Amazed, I watch as the skillful birds swoop down to receive their tender morsels.

This was a beautiful picture of the providing hands of our Lord.  If He provides such a feast for the fowl, don't you think he will provide good things for us?  He knows what satisfies and eagerly waits for us to come to His tables.  God gives the birds their food, but they must fly for it.  He supplies our needs just as surly and all we have to do is work.  The highest reward of a man’s labor is not what he gets for it, but what it does for him.  Sadly, too many people look at their jobs as something they have to do, instead of something they get to do.  Love is made visible by and can be measured by how we work.

We often hear of the importance of good works, we should be examples of people who do good work.  How we do our jobs says a lot about what kind of people we are.  Let us be enthusiastic about what we do and how we do it because no life can be dreary when work is delight.  Duty does not have to be dull.  Love can make it beautiful and fill it with life.  Think about your family and the tremendous blessing of having a job to do and be grateful for the wealth of work.  Happiness is a choice; choose to labor cheerfully.

Something to think about:

  • No person who is enthusiastic about his work has anything to fear from life.

  • Few men ever drop dead from overwork, but many quietly curl up and die because of undersatisfaction.

  • Give us, oh, give us, the man who sings at his work! He will do more in the same time, he will do it better, he will persevere longer. One is scarcely sensible of fatigue while he marches to music.

  • Quality workmanship is not expensive; it’s priceless!

  • Great works do not always lie in our way, but every moment we may do little ones excellently, that is, with great love.

  • Opportunities are usually disguised as hard work, so most people don’t recognize them.

  • You cannot add to the peace and good will of the world if you fail to create an atmosphere of harmony and love right where you live and work.

Thankful to those who gave me the opportunity to work
