wait

Photography has taught me a valuable lesson; good things come to those who wait.  Don’t believe me?  Give it a try; get up early Saturday morning, go to a quite place, a place of seclusion and wait.  And before you know it, something amazing will happen.  Slowly you will begin to see fascinating creatures that are typically invisible appear before your eyes.  Why?  Because, the person who can wait shall see things the rest of us are oblivious to.

That is what happened to me Sunday morning.  I rose with the sun and traveled to the Anniston Natural History Museum to walk through their gardens.  I decide to sit before a fountain and quietly take in the beauty that encircles me on this gorgeous morning.  And gradually I begin to notice humming birds like tiny dive bombers above my head.  Next to arrive on the scene were the butterflies, and then the bees and finally I realize I am surrounded by lizards.

As I sit in the silence and wait patiently for Mother Nature to parade her wonders in front of me I spot this lizard.  As I observed my new friend I can see that he too has found the magic held in the treasure chest of patience.  I watch as he stands frozen in place and waits for breakfast to come his way.  As he sits patiently and looks over the menu he seems excited with his prospects.  And just like in the fairy tale, along came a spider and sat down beside him.  Moments later my new buddy scampers off with a full stomach and a big grin.

The key to everything is patience. You get the chicken by hatching the egg, not by smashing it open.  Patience is a tree whose root is bitter, but its fruit is very sweet.  Yes, patience is a powerful and magical commodity and all those who learn to wait benefit from their time spent in silence.  Because many good things comes to those who not only have learned the art of waiting, but who can do something useful while they wait.  Perhaps you are learning to wait in a place called a waiting room.  Maybe you feel like you have been placed on a shelf or confined to the sideline; no matter where you are waiting, do something useful while you wait.

Something to think about:

  • We can only appreciate the miracle of a sunrise if we have waited in the darkness.

  • Patience strengthens the spirit, sweetens the temper, subdues the pride, and bridles the tongue.

  • Patience is a great virtue—but work while you wait.

  • The highest service may be prepared for and done in the humblest surroundings. In silence, in waiting, in obscure, unnoticed offices, in years of uneventful, unrecorded duties, the Son of God grew and waxed strong.

  • The Lord makes a promise; faith believes it, hope anticipates it, patience quietly awaits it.

  • Patience means waiting without anxiety.

  • Patience achieves more than force.

  • Our Heavenly Father engineers our circumstances as he did those of his Son; all we have to do is to follow where he places us. The majority of us are busy trying to place ourselves. He alters things while we wait for him.

  • All comes at the proper time to him who knows how to wait.

Please be patient with me, the Lord is not finished with me yet
